Man fined for punching medium who had affair with wife

A man who caught his wife with another man in a car punched the other man twice, fracturing his finger.

Tan Chin Huat, 30, a fishmonger, saw his wife with her lover near their home. He pulled open the driver's door and punched Mr Leow Yong Seah.

Mr Leow fractured his little finger while attempting to ward off the blows.

Tan was fined $3,000 for hurting the other man and ordered to pay $1,000 in compensation.

District Judge Matthew Joseph said Tan's reaction was not totally unexpected, but warned that the courts will punish those who take the law into their own hands.

Tan's wife, Madam Woon Siew Huan, felt she had become possessed by spirits in 2008 and went to consult Mr Leow on a friend's recommendation.

After several prayer sessions, she became Mr Leow's disciple and began distancing herself from her husband.

She kept late hours, claiming she was helping Mr Leow conduct religious rituals.

Suspicious of her behaviour, Tan hired a private investigator, who photographed Madam Woon and Mr Leow checking into a hotel in April.

Tan and Madam Woon are now in the midst of a divorce.
