Maid crushed by gate in freak accident

An Indonesian maid was killed when the gate of her employer's house in Jalan Raja Udang, Larkin Jaya here collapsed on her yesterday.

The maid, identified as Oneh, in her 50s, was washing the floor of the porch about 12.30pm when she slipped on the wet surface.

She was believed to have grabbed hold of the gate, but it collapsed on top of her.

The iron gate, weighing more than 200kg, had just been installed and its foundation was believed to have been still unstable at the time.

Oneh's employer, Shahrul Hassan, 41, said he heard a loud crash. He said Oneh, whom his family called "Bibik", was pinned under the gate.

"Bibik was still alive then and we immediately lifted the gate off her. However, she died before we could get medical help."
