In a well-coordinated operation yesterday evening, officers from Bedok Police Division arrested two 19-year-old boys who are believed to be responsible for several robberies involving young victims over the past two months.
Between 16 August 2011 and 23 September 2011, a total of six robberies involving two teenage male perpetrators were reported across Bedok North, Bedok South, Tampines, Pasir Ris and Balam Road.
The two suspects, who worked in pair, would target young victims between the ages of 9 and 15 who were on their way home after school and using their handphones. They would follow their victims and in a concerted action, one would restrain the victims from behind while the other would grab the victims’ handphones.
Through extensive follow-up investigation and intensive enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division Property Offenders Squad and Division Intelligence Branch managed to establish the identities of the suspects.
On 30 September 2011, the officers mounted an ambush and the suspects were arrested in the vicinities of Macpherson Road and Paya Lebar MRT respectively.
Both the suspects will be charged in Court on 1 October 2011 for Robbery with Common Intention under Section 392 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, an offence which if found guilty, the offender is liable to a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 14 years' imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of caning.
