SEA Games: Singapore to send 44-strong athletics team

Singapore will send a 44-strong athletics team to the upcoming SEA Games in Indonesia, comprising 28 athletes and 16 officials, the largest since the 1993 edition.

Singapore also hopes to win six medals this time round. In 2007, it won two gold and one silver medals.

Donning national colours, they are determined to make their mark. Leading the charge is 42-year-old veteran James Wong who is gunning for gold number nine in discus.

He is also hoping for new faces to get on the winner's podium and do Singapore proud.

He said: "We want to have more medals coming from some up-and-coming athletes who are aspiring to become champions in their own rights. We are hoping for some surprises. Some of them are young and they are coming in for experience."
