SCDF scales back forces on Pulau Bukom, hands over to Shell

Fifty firemen from the Singapore civil Defence Force (SCDF) left Shell's Pulau Bukom refinery on Sunday morning as the force scaled down its resources on the island.

It has also brought back 16 of its vehicles.

The SCDF is handing over the management of fire site to Shell, but said it would leave behind 'sufficient resources' to support the petrochemical company.

For now, there are 50 firemen and 18 SCDF vehicles left on the island.

Last night, traces of fuel vapour could still be detected in the affected areas.
