Mr Pritam Singh today outlined four measures while calling for more transparency from the Government.
Speaking in Parliament today, Mr Singh suggested:
- the public release of Government records at fixed intervals of 30 years - a practice in the United Kingdom.
- for a law to protect corporate whistleblowers - which the Ministry of Finance decided against in May this year.
- a Freedom of Information Act.
- the appointment of a Government Ombudsman.
Mr Singh said that the aim for these four measures is to protect Singaporeans from lies and misinformation.
He said, "(They are) key nodes in a system of trust that would give Singaporeans the tools necessary to rely less on the government for solutions and play their part in active citizenship."
