Occupy Raffles Place

The local campaign, launched on social networking site Facebook, called for the public to take part in a rally.

#OccupyRafflesPlace was intended to be a 'peaceful movement' to demand accountability and change.

The event's unidentified organisers argued 99 per cent of Singaporeans' wealth is in the hands of '1 per cent' - Temasek Holdings and the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.

The Facebook event, launched earlier this month, had almost 3,000 followers on Facebook, with 75 indicating they would attend.

Organisers instructed potential attendees to gather at Raffles Place MRT from 2 pm with placards and musical instruments and to "make as much noise as possible".

They planned to march towards SGX Centre after meeting fellow protesters at the open space outside Raffles Place MRT Station.

But instead less than 20 people turned up at Raffles Place yesterday.
