Dressed in yellow T-shirts, about 50 former inmates from the Industrial and Service Co-operative Society spent the morning at the nursing home as part of the annual Yellow Ribbon Project.

The idea is to bring some cheer to the elderly, through games and activities.

But the event also gives ex-offenders a chance to give back to the community.

The group donated S$2,500 to the nursing home.

This was matched by the Southeast Community Development Council (CDC), bringing the total raised to S$5,000.

29-year-old Steven Chia, an ex-offender, said: "I was thinking of contributing back to society, to give myself a chance and to give others a chance to show that this can be done."
