Twenty servicemen from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) returned home from Oruzgan, Afghanistan on Friday afternoon as part of the SAF's contributions to the multinational and reconstruction efforts there.
The SAF has deployed various teams of servicemen to Afghanistan since 2007 as part of Singapore's assistance with rehabilitation efforts.
The returning servicemen comprise a 13-man medical team and a six-man Imagery Analysis Team, who were stationed at the Multinational Base Tarin Kowt in Oruzgan. The troops were welcomed back by their families, friends and senior SAF officers.
Led by Lieutenant-Colonel Foo Chek Boon, the team provided medical support, healthcare, as well as pre- and post-operative medical care for International Security Assistance Force personnel and Afghan locals.
The returning Imagery Analysis Team led by Lt-Col Yeoh Keat Hoe was the fourth to be deployed to the Multinational Base Tarin Kowt since Aug 2010, to augment the International Security Assistance Force's surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.
