Former SEA Games gold medallist Jeffrey Su has been banned for two years by the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA).

The 24-year-old, who is currently not swimming competitively, went absent without official leave (AWOL) last year during his National Service and missed physiotherapy and recovery sessions at the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) under the SAF Sportsman Scheme.

His former coach Gary Tan has been banned for a year for marking him as "present" at the SSC sessions.

Their club, Swimfast Aquatic, have also been slapped with a two-month suspension from all SSA-sanctioned meets.

The sanctions, which were imposed last night by the SSA's executive committee, have been backdated to take effect from Sept 19.

But the club's swimmers who are part of the squad for the Nov 11-22 SEA Games in Indonesia are not affected, easing fears that the incident would impact the national squad's chances at the biennial meet.
