The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) announced on Thursday that it had miscalculated its drug abuse statistics since 2008, resulting in drug abuser arrests being under-reported.
The correct data, released on Thursday, showed that there had been more drug abusers arrested than previously reported, completely reversing the falling trend indicated by the old numbers.
The newly-released figures show that the number of arrests in 2008 was actually 2,537 instead of 1,925. The number rose in 2009 to 2,616, instead of the previously reported 1,883. And last year, 2,887 drug abusers were arrested, a marked increase from the 1,805 reflected in the 2010 statistics.
