IN THE latest round of public transport service improvements to be rolled out, SMRT will add 119 train trips each week on the North-South and East-West lines.
These additional trips will be implemented from Aug 15 to shorten waiting times during non-peak hours on weekdays and on Sundays. The peak-hour time period on the Changi Airport extension will also be extended by 30 minutes.
The extra trips will generally reduce waiting times during off-peak hours from 7 minutes to around 4 to 6.5 minutes.
Commuters who will benefit most are those on the North-South Line heading to Jurong East interchange station or south towards the city on weekday early mornings, and those on the East-West Line travelling towards the city on weekday late mornings. Passengers commuting from the city towards residential estates in the North and East of Singapore after 8pm on weekdays will also see reduced waiting times.
Commuters using the Changi Airport extension on the East-West line will enjoy peak-hour frequency of 9 minutes on weekdays and weekends. On Sundays, eastbound passengers will enjoy reduced waiting times of around 4 minutes from 4.45pm to 6.45pm.
