On 14 July 2011, a 56-year-old victim returned to his unit at Blk 247 Hougang Avenue 3 to find his room ransacked, and an assortment of jewellery worth S$1800/- missing. He immediately alerted the Police.
The officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division were undeterred despite the absence of good leads in the case. They carried out extensive follow-up investigations and subsequently managed to establish the identity of the suspect within two days of the report.
However, the suspect remained elusive as he had no fixed place of abode. Undeterred, the officers pursued with the case and eventually tracked down and arrested the suspect at Alexandra Hospital on 26 July 2011 at about 1pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in two other cases of break-ins that occurred at Wellington Circle and Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4, where he is believed to have gained access into the units by climbing through the kitchen window.
The suspect is currently under investigation for Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of 14 years imprisonment.
