Transport Minister, Lui Tuck Yew, announced this morning that the Land Transport Authority will be working with operator SMRT to buy 13 more train cars for the system.

When put into service from 2014, they will provide additional capacity of about 50 per cent.

Mr Lui also said SMRT will invest some S$3 million to improve the reliability of the system.

SMRT will also run a parallel bus service for residents living at the end of the line, near Fajar station.

Average ridership on the LRT has grown steadily to about 51,000 due to the growth in the town's population.
