Teens charged with robbing student of iPhone with knife at Sembawang

Students Benny Kee Soon Chuan and Dane Tok Jun Wei, 17, are accused of robbing Melvin Soh Jian Xiang, 16, of his $230 phone while armed with a knife each near Block 501B Wellington Circle.

They are said to have caused hurt to the victim during the robbery by slashing him twice on the right forearm.

The two, who were arrested separately, were remanded at Ang Mo Kio Police Division for further investigation.

They will be back in court on Thursday next week.

If convicted, the two can be jailed between five and 20 years, with no less than 12 strokes of the cane each.

The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient.
