Mr Ang Khang Yee, 40, was taking the route he took everyday to get to work: he would take the MRT from Toa Payoh, where he lived, to get to Commonwealth. He then would walk to the Immunos building at Biopolis, where he worked, by taking a shortcut across the railway tracks.

The train was about 200m away from him when the train driver sounded the horn to warn Mr Ang of its approach, but being both mute and hearing-impaired, it was to no avail.

His body was found beside the tracks about 20m from the footpath.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force pronounced Mr Ang dead at 7.50am. He had suffered multiple injuries.
