Serial Yishun snatch thief arrested

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 32-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for at least six cases of snatch thefts committed in Yishun.

The suspect would come from behind the victims and snatched their purses and hand phones.

In the latest case on Monday, a 56-year-old victim's purse and hand phone were snatched at Block 111 Yishun Ring Road.

The suspect was arrested in an ambush near Yishun Ave 5 Tuesday morning.

A hand phone, purse and several SIM cards belonging to the victims were recovered and seized as evidence.

The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday.

If convicted he could be jailed up to seven years' and caned.
