Kuala Lumpur CID chief, Mr Ku Chin Wah, said the authorities have stepped up street patrols after receiving reports of more than 20 such incidents in less than three months. The police had previously believed it was the work of one man.
In a statement yesterday, following three attacks over the weekend, Mr Ku said the men typically splash a corrosive chemical liquid on women walking alone to public transport stations. He added that schoolchildren in the Bangsar and Brickfields areas have also been attacked.
One of the suspects is of dark complexion and rides either a Honda EX5 or Yamaha motorcycle. Police have yet to determine a motive but believe the attackers are getting bolder with the latest assaults occurring downtown.
