Elk Grove, California - The Council on American-Islamic Relations is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals who gunned down two Sikh men in the Sacramento suburb of Elk Grove over the weekend.
Authorities say 65-year-old Surinder Singh was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot as he walked with a second man on a sidewalk along East Stockton Boulevard around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
The second man, identified by authorities as 78-year-old Gurmej Atwal, was hospitalized in critical condition.
In offering the reward, the council noted that both men had traditional Sikh beards and turbans.
Elk Grove Police Chief Robert Lehner issued a statement saying there was no evidence the shooting was a hate crime, but also said there was no other apparent motive for the shooting.
