Do you think enough has been done to keep problem gambling at bay? Take the ST Poll

FOREIGNERS living or working in Singapore are among a growing number of people whose families want them barred from the two casinos.

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) allows immediate family members to apply for exclusion orders to bar problem gamblers from the casinos.

The number issued has more than doubled in six months, from 123 as at last June to 297 by December.

Salesman C.K. Tan, who is in his 40s, said he had his Vietnamese wife excluded recently because she had 'lost control'.

She used to gamble occasionally at home with friends, but began frequenting the casinos last July. She would sometimes gamble continuously for up to 24 hours, and had chalked up losses totalling more than $10,000.

The childless couple quarrelled often over it, but the last straw was when she stole from his wallet to gamble - after losing all of her own savings.

All things considered, do you think enough has been done to keep problem gambling at bay?
