Bellevue teen charged in shooting of 12-year-old brother

Ref: Bellevue boy, 16, shoots 12-year-old brother in the mouth

Adrian Flores Maldonado
and his 12-year-old brother were wrestling and "play fighting" at their home in the 16200 block of Northeast 12th Court when the younger brother attempted to put the older boy in a headlock, according to charges filed in King County Superior Court. After freeing himself, Maldonado fetched a gun from his room with the intention of scaring his brother, charges said.

"Then with the gun about one foot from his brother's face, he pointed the gun at the left corner of his brother's mouth and pulled the trigger," police said in the certification for probable cause, which is part of the charging paperwork..

Bellevue police said the 12-year-old did not suffer a life-threatening injury.

Maldonado told police that he had taken the loaded 9-mm Ruger to Interlake High School earlier on Monday and forgot to unload it when he got home. The teen, who police say is a gang member, is believed to have bought the gun from an 18-year-old in an affiliated gang.
