LEOs in Action - Trooper Dan Haley

COLORADO STATE TROOPER SAVES YOUNG BOYS LIFE ... AND IT NEARLY COST HIM HIS OWN

While spending a much deserved day off with his family at a funplex park, Colorado State TROOPER DAN HALEY, 25, was watching some kids tossing rocks out on a frozen pond when he witnessed a young boy fall through the ice.

Trooper Haley did not hesitate for a moment to react and leapt into action as the 10 year old cried out for help. Trooper Haley had his wife call 911 and then ran to the edge of the frozen pond and then got down on all fours and began crawling out to the child. Dan, wearing just shorts and a jacket, stayed focused on the young boy, talking to him the whole while.

As most people would have panicked, Trooper Haley kept his cool (pun intended) and was able to get the kid to keep his eyes on Dan to keep him calm. But then it happened ... the ice broke from under the Trooper ...

With both now in the frigid water and surrounded by the ice, Trooper Haley was able to hold on to the boy and began breaking the ice around them, clearing a path in the water for an attempt to swim to the shoreline. But when Trooper Haley turned, he saw the 10 year old going under. He was beginning to drown.

That is when that super-strength kicked in and Dan was able to grab the kid and lift him up onto the ice, with no time to spare. Being in the icy waters and hypothermia setting in, the two were able to get to shore where Mrs. Kirstin Haley, who is a registered nurse, bystanders and paramedics/firefighters were waiting.

They were pulled up, where they collapsed from exhaustion and cold but were finally safe. Once the medics checked them out, both were transported to the hospital and treated for hypothermia, cuts and bruising.

Yet another story of no matter who, no matter where, no matter when, no matter the circumstances, it is the Police Officer who will risk his own life with no hesitation nor reservation to save the life of a stranger ... even when not "on the clock." So the next time you hear someone talking smack about the Police ask them ... "Would YOU have the balls to do what they do?"

Trooper Haley, THANK YOU for representing what we are about in such a high and noble fashion. Job Well Done. WAY TO GO DAN!!! And a very special Thank You to Mrs. Kirstin Haley, who had the courage to step back and allow her husband do what he was born to do ... Save, Serve and Protect. Bless your heart.

10 year old Brenndan Daviet is doing well. His mom Bobbi and family are so very grateful to Trooper Haley. When Mrs. Daviet visited Trooper Haley's hospital room, she brought him an Angel statue. Although Brenndan will be facing some grounding, I am certain he has learned a valuable lesson and has gained a tremendous respect for the Police. Great job staying calm Brenndan! Best wishes to you kiddo.

Trooper Dan Haley has been with the CSP for three years and is currently assigned to Homeland Security Unit. I don't know about you, but I sure am comforted knowing this Warrior is protecting my ass.
