World soccer headlines

USA: Colorado beat Columbus in play-offs
Colorado Rapids are through to the Major League Soccer Conference finals following a penalty win over Columbus Crew.

The Rapids had won the opening leg 1-0 at home, but Columbus needed just 22 minutes in the second leg for Eddie Gaven to level the aggregate score.

Robbie Rogers then made it 2-0 in the 70th minute and it looked like the Crew were on their way to the conference final.

But the Rapids would not give up and Conor Casey found the target for 2-1 with just six minutes to go.

In the following penalty shoot-out, Colorado scored five while the Crew netted only four.

Netherlands: Leaders Twente come back to beat Excelsior
Fans at Enschede's Grolsch Veste stadium were in for an unwelcome surprise as Leendert van Steensel scored the opener for Excelsior after less than two minutes.

Nacer Chadli then leveled the score in the 26th minute and Marc Janko netted the winner with about 15 minutes to go in the second half.

Twente are now four points ahead of PSV and Ajax.

Greece: Olympiakos crush Panionios
Olympiakos Piraeus returned to winning ways in the Greek Super League, with a convincing 5-0 trashing of Panionios on Saturday.

Bottom-of-the-table Panionios were no match for Olympiakos.

Turkey: Fenerbahce too strong for Eskisehirspor
Brazilian Alex put 'Fener' in the lead after just three minutes but had his goal canceled out by Sezer Öztürk ten minutes later.

Semih Sentürk then restored the home side's lead after another five minutes, and Gökhan Gönül made it 3-1 just before the interval.

Both teams had a player sent off in the first minute after the break with Eskisehirspor's Öztürk and Fenerbahce's Diego Lugano heading for an early shower.

Serdar Ozbayraktar gave Eskisehirspor new hope by scoring for 3-2 in the 65th minute, but Sentürk netted his second in the 72nd minute to secure the home team's victory.

Controversial Eto´o penalty earns Inter point
Andrea Caracciolo had given stubborn Brescia a first half lead but Eto'o notched his 17th goal in 16 games in this incredible season for the Cameroon captain after he himself went down in the box.

However, TV replays showed Eto'o had fallen over after treading on the ball under pressure from Gaetano Berardi.
