The licences of 15 employment agencies have been revoked so far this year, compared to 11 last year, for various infringements under the Employment Agencies Act or the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.
The Manpower Ministry said the infringements ranged from the illegal employment of foreigners, to aiding the operations of unlicensed employment agencies or agents.
MOM also forfeited the security deposits of the 15 agencies and barred their licensees and directors from holding employment agency licences and key appointment in other employment agencies.
Another 17 employment agencies' licences have not been renewed due to their involvement in making false declarations in work pass applications and acting as proxies for agents who have been barred from holding an employment agency licence, MOM said.
MOM will continue to put pressure on rogue employment agencies to safeguard the interests of workers and employers, said Mr Aw Kum Cheong, divisional director of MOM's foreign manpower management division.
