Proton recalls 16,000 cars

MALAYSIA'S national carmaker Proton has recalled almost 16,000 cars of two of its models over malfunctioning risks.

Proton said in a statement received on Friday that it was recalling Gen2 and Satria Neo cars made between 2004 and 2008. It urged owners of the models to bring them in for an inspection.

Routine tests have found irregularities with the clock spring - which connects switches and air bags to radio, horn and cruise control, the statement said. These include friction noise within the steering wheel, activation of horn or car lights without warning, audio control switch malfunction and deployments of the driver's side air bag. MORE
