SCDF warns the public against ruse

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) says it has not authorised any company to sell fire extinguishers or conduct fire safety talks. This follows complaints from the public that some firms were using the SCDF name to do that.

The SCDF understands that the company personnel show the SCDF Emergency Handbook first to deceive the public. They then use aggressive sales tactics to push their products or force people to sign up for fire insurance or attend talks and training seminars. The most recent cases were reported last month.

The SCDF says its fire safety and community emergency preparedness programmes are provided free-of-charge at all division headquarters. It is also standard procedure for all its uniformed staff to display their warrant cards while on duty. SOURCE
