The recent security breaches at the Bishan depot point to the location’s vulnerabilities, transport operator SMRT said on Thursday (Dec 4).
On Nov 8, graffiti was discovered on the exterior of a train at the
Bishan depot. This was the third case of vandalism at the depot,
following a similar case in May this year and another in August 2011.
The 30-hectare depot has a network of canals and drains running underneath. This presents vulnerabilities that are unique to the Bishan depot, SMRT said.
SMRT pointed out that the fencing was not breached in the two security breaches this year. It has, however, put in place further security measures following the incident in May.
The transport operator pledged to develop together with national security agencies an “effective strategy that encompasses deterrence, vigilance and swift response against the prevailing threats”.
