Boon Tat street near Lau Pa Sat in the Central Business District was temporarily cordoned off on Tuesday morning (Dec 2), due to a gas leak.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at Boon Tat Street at 10:24am and sent a fire engine and red rhino to the scene.
SCDF used gas detectors and traced the source of the leak to a gas pipe. The pipe has since been shut off with the help of Singapore Power's SP PowerGrid.
The power company's emergency response team discovered that works by a contractor laying an underground gas pipe had damaged another pipe.
Kopitiam, which runs Lau Pa Sat, said business there was suspended temporarily as a precautionary measure. At about 12.30pm, it was given the all clear by SCDF and business resumed as normal.
