Two mobile phone retailers at People's Park Complex appear to have shut their businesses a week after the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) asked them to sign a contract to stop unfair practices.

Tele Infinity and Mobile Alliance had their doors locked, when Channel NewsAsia visited the complex in Chinatown.

Shop owners near Tele Infinity told Channel NewsAsia they saw staff removing the signboard some four days ago. They were also seen moving goods out of the shop.

As for Mobile Alliance, it had notices up offering rental space only to retailers of beauty products.

CASE says it is unlikely to take further action against these two shops but president Lim Biow Chuan said he will suggest closer working ties between CASE and the police.

"I have filed a question in Parliament to ask the Ministry of Home Affairs on whether the police will look into each complaint with a view of taking prosecution action against businesses or their directors, who have been dishonest in their conduct," he said.
