The Singapore Sports Hub will host three of Japan's Super Rugby team's home games per season.

This was announced in a media release on Thursday (Nov 20) by South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby (SANZAR).

SANZAR said an agreement was made between the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU), Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) and Singapore Sports Hub.

SANZAR also confirmed that its executive committee has formally approved Japan and Argentina's entry into Super Rugby from 2016, and that they will play in opposing conferences in the South African Group. The Argentine and Japanese national teams are ranked 9th and 10th in the world respectively.

MediaCorp understands that JRFU and SRU have also inked a partnership accord that stipulates that Japan will provide technical support, training for coaches, match officials and medical staff, and sparring opportunities for Singapore players against the Japanese team when they are in Singapore to play their matches.

Besides the transfer of knowledge and experience, this is expected to provide greater opportunities and exposure for local players to test themselves against strong competition, and also to be recommended for trials in the Japanese professional leagues.
