Pardew rises from the dead, Hazard penalty rescues three points for Chelsea

Saturday's results:
Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool
Arsenal 3-0 Burnley
Chelsea 2-1 QPR
Everton 0-0 Swansea
Hull 0-1 Southampton
Leicester 0-1 West Brom
Stoke 2-2 West Brom

Chelsea needed a late Eden Hazard penalty to maintain their unblemished home record in the Barclays Premier League as the leaders beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Charlie Austin's second-half equaliser had looked set to deny Jose Mourinho's side a fifth consecutive league win at Stamford Bridge after Oscar had opened the scoring.

However, with an under-par Chelsea on course to drop points for the second BPL match running, Hazard was bundled over by Eduardo Vargas and the Belgian stroked home the winner on 75 minutes to maintain Chelsea's four-point lead at the summit.

Alexis Sanchez continued his hot streak in front of goal as his double-strike inspired Arsenal to a 3-0 victory over Burnley. Arsene Wenger's team had failed to collect a Barclays Premier League win on their own turf since the opening day against Crystal Palace and they appeared set for another afternoon of frustration against the bottom side in the division.

Despite dominating play the score remained goalless until the 70th minute, when Calum Chambers crossed for Sanchez to score with a header. Chambers added a second himself two minutes later with his first goal in senior football.

Sanchez then fashioned space from Kieran Gibbs's low centre to net a 10th goal in 12 appearances in the final minute, as Arsenal moved above West Ham United into fourth place, while Burnley are three points adrift at the bottom, five from safety and without a win so far this season.

Victor Wanyama took advantage of an Eldin Jakupovic error as Southampton continued their fine run in a 1-0 win at Hull City. Third-choice Hull goalkeeper Jakupovic continued to deputise in the absence of Allan McGregor and Steve Harper at the KC Stadium and his mishit clearance after just three minutes fell into the path of Wanyama, who cleverly guided the ball home from distance for the only goal of the encounter.

On balance of play it was a deserved three points for Southampton, who remain second in the table, as Jakupovic's opposite number Fraser Forster was rarely tested in his bid to impress the watching England manager Roy Hodgson.

Two goals in 13 minutes allowed West Ham to draw 2-2 at Stoke City and continue their fine start to the season.

Sam Allardyce's men arrived at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday fourth in the Barclays Premier League but struggled without the injured Diafra Sakho, and Victor Moses's first Barclays Premier League goal in 14 months gave Mark Hughes's side a deserved first-half lead before Mame Biram Diouf added a second after the break.

Enner Valencia pulled one back on the hour before setting up Stewart Downing's equaliser in the 73rd minute after Diouf had passed up a great chance to seal the points for Stoke. This sparked a frantic finale as both sides pushed for a winner, but neither could find the decisive touch.

Everton failed to score for the first time this season as they were held to a goalless draw by 10-man Swansea City. Roberto Martinez's men had managed to find the net in every league fixture this term, but endured a frustrating 90 minutes against the Spaniard's former club at Goodison Park.

Clear-cut goalscoring opportunities were limited in the first half, despite Everton's domination of possession.

Swansea, who picked up their first win over Everton in the League Cup earlier this season, looked brighter after the break, but were dealt a blow when Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for a second bookable offence with 18 minutes to go.

However, Garry Monk's men held firm to cling on to a hard-earned point that keeps them sixth, while Everton stay ninth.

Esteban Cambiasso's bizarre own goal gave West Bromwich Albion a 1-0 win as Leicester City extended their winless Barclays Premier League run to five matches.

The hosts struggled to make the most of their chances against Alan Irvine's men, with Jamie Vardy guilty of spurning a couple of good opportunities.

Ultimately Leicester were undone by an error two minutes into the second period when Cambiasso inadvertently directed Wes Morgan's clearance into his own net.

Andy King could have earned Leicester a draw in the final 15 minutes but he headed straight at goalkeeper Ben Foster to give West Brom their first win since the end of September.

Earlier in the day Newcastle United continued their resurgent form with a 1-0 home victory over Liverpool thanks to Ayoze Perez's second winning goal in as many Barclays Premier League matches.

The Spaniard netted the decisive goal in the 2-1 triumph at Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday and came off the bench at St James' Park to earn Newcastle's fourth win in a row in all competitions and lift them to within a point of Liverpool.

The Barclays Premier League's highest-scoring fixture, having yielded 129 goals before this meeting, looked set to be heading for a goalless draw until Perez's 73rd-minute strike, which condemned the visitors to their fourth top-flight defeat of the season.

Man City makes it four in a row
Manchester City continued their recent derby dominance with a 1-0 Barclays Premier League win over 10-man Manchester United on Sunday.

Aided by Chris Smalling's sending-off during a goalless opening period at the Etihad Stadium, Manuel Pellegrini's men took control after the interval as Sergio Aguero grabbed the decisive goal.

The Argentina striker's effort, his 10th in the BPL this season, condemned United to a fourth successive league defeat by their rivals for the first time since 1970 and ensured Louis van Gaal was beaten in his maiden all-Manchester clash.

Anticipation was high as City attempted to end a three-match winless run in all competitions and their hopes were raised towards the end of a breathless first half, with Smalling given his marching orders after picking up two yellow cards.

That, combined with fellow centre-back Marcos Rojo being carried off through injury in the 56th minute, proved decisive as the hosts took the points.

Harry Kane's late goal earned three points for Tottenham Hotspur
A late goal by Harry Kane earned three points for Tottenham Hotspur as they came from behind with less than 10 minutes remaining to beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday.

Andreas Weimann had scored Villa's first goal in 547 minutes to put them in front in the first half and they looked set to end a run of five consecutive defeats by securing an elusive victory. The match changed 25 minutes from time, though, when Christian Benteke was shown a straight red card after an altercation.

An unmarked Nacer Chadli converted an Erik Lamela corner from close range six minutes from time to draw Mauricio Pochettino's side level at Villa Park. Kane's deflected free-kick in the 90th minute rubbed salt into the Villa wounds as Spurs secured only their second victory in eight top-flight matches. It was Kane's ninth goal in 13 appearances across all competitions this season.
