Football fans in Singapore could be in for a treat next year, with plans for the legends of English football club Liverpool to take on their Manchester United counterparts in a friendly match in the near future.

The announcement came on Wednesday (Nov 12), as former Liverpool players are in town for an exhibition game against Singapore's ex-internationals this Saturday.

"I would say that we are in very advanced stages to bring Liverpool back next year,” said Masters Football Asia Chief Executive Steve Black. “There are good chances that they might play legends from Manchester United. I think it's a game many people would like to see."

Meanwhile, the upcoming exhibition match, to be played at the Jalan Besar Stadium, will see the likes of Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman lining up for Liverpool. Former Reds Emile Heskey and Jerzy Dudek are also expected to play.

The Singapore team will feature local heroes such as Aide Iskandar and Alexander Duric. The match will serve as a testimonial game for 44-year-old Duric, who announced his retirement from the game a few weeks ago.
