They flew to Phuket on a Tigerair flight recently, but Cassandra Chiu and her guide dog recently found they could not even get on a taxi in Singapore.

The visually impaired Ms Chiu related her experience on a Facebook page for her guide dog Esme.

She said that on Monday (Nov 3), she had tried to board a taxi outside Tanglin Shopping Centre, but that the driver would not open the door for her and brushed her off while she was trying to explain that she is blind.

She also alleged that the taxi driver drove off suddenly, leaving her in a heap on the ground. Ms Chiu was left bleeding from her legs, although she had no broken bones. A passerby who helped her up told her the taxi involved was from ComfortDelgro.

In response to media queries, transport operator ComfortDelgro told Channel NewsAsia on Wednesday that: "Under the Land Transport Authority's regulations, cabbies are not allowed to reject passengers with caged or muzzled pets unless they have health or religious reasons. The exception however does not apply to guide dogs which are allowed to go on board our taxis without muzzles."

"Any driver found guilty of rejecting customers without proper and valid reasons will be disciplined," it added.
