The director of Blue Diamond Restaurant in Buffalo Road was charged on Thursday (Nov 20) with falsely declaring the salaries of 12 foreign employees.

Abdul Hameed Mohamed Farook, 55, allegedly made false declarations in connection with 12 applications for work passes for foreign employees from India between Nov 28, 2012 and May 19 this year.

Of the applications for S Pass and Employment Passes, three were new applications while nine were for renewals.

Abdul Hameed had declared to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) that he would pay his employees S$2,800 to S$4,500 a month when in fact, he never intended to pay them that much.

Based on the false declarations, the applications were approved and work passes were issued, the MOM said.

If convicted for the 12 charges, Abdul is liable to a fine not exceeding S$20,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both.

Providing false salary information to MOM to obtain a work pass is an offence under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act (EFMA).
