The organisers of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS) 2014 on Dec 7 said participants can look forward to a smoother and more enjoyable run this year, with improvements made in the final 3km of the run.
The revised running route will separate the Half Marathon (21.1km) runners from the Marathon and 10km runners, reducing the congestion usually found at the last 3km of the race, said SCMS in a press release on Thursday (Oct 30).
At about 18km along the Half Marathon route, the Half Marathon runners will get off the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) via the exit ramp leading to Maxwell Road, before making their way through the Central Business District via Robinson Road, Collyer Quay and Anderson Bridge, before finishing at the Padang.
The runners for all three races will still meet up at the final 500m, just before the Anderson Bridge, said SCMS. It will also implement wave starts as usual, to minimise crowding in the first few kilometres.
The revised route will also allow runners to run very close to the Sports Hub, said SCMS. The amendments to the route were unveiled by event organiser Spectrum Worldwide.
“Feedback from participants has always been very important for us to continuously improve the race experience. Together with the relevant authorities, and with the full support of Sport Singapore and Standard Chartered Bank, we have made these changes to ensure a smoother running experience,” said Chris Robb, Chief Executive Officer, Spectrum Worldwide.
“While SCMS accommodates runners of all abilities, a key priority for us is to provide an outstanding experience for our long distance runners. It is this group of runners who will benefit the most from the new route change and we’re very pleased to have found an effective solution."
Registration for the SCMS ends on Friday, and participants who register after this date will have to pay a S$20 late fee, said SCMS.
