Aarons and Sissoko goals dump holders out
As car crashes go, they don’t come much more spectacular than this for Manchester City.

City head into Sunday’s Manchester derby with a crisis brewing after this disastrous night.

Even by City’s time-honoured tradition of cock-ups, this is hard to beat as the Capital One Cup holders were humiliated by Newcastle and lost David Silva to a knee injury.

It is hard to convey just how bad City were and they were a shambles at the back, wasteful in attack and awful in possession.

City can’t say they are that surprised and a night like this has been coming on the evidence of their disintegrating season at home and in Europe.

City could not live with Aarons’ pace and he scored in the first six minutes before Moussa Sissoko came off the bench to net a superb second.

Pelle's late second sees Saints through
Graziano Pelle proved why he kept Mario Balotelli out the Italy squad with the late winner.

The £8million summer signing made it nine goals in ten games as Southampton won for the ninth time out of 10.

Pelle, who was called up for his country ahead of Liverpool maverick Balotelli this month, snatched an 89th-minute goal to thwart a Stoke comeback after they had responded to going 2-0 down.

He curled home a 25-yard beauty six minutes into this contest after collecting Matt Targett’s pass and a well-worked second from Shane Long made it two on the half hour.

Stoke responded in the second half with Steven Nzonzi and Mame Diouf goals helping them level.

But sub Peter Crouch was stupidly sent off and Pelle pounced on a Erik Pieters mistake to send Southampton through from the resulting Steven Davis free kick.

Lamela and Kane see Spurs past Seagulls
Erik Lamela produced another wonder goal to put Tottenham into the quarter finals - and still got a dressing down from Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino admitted he was "angry" with Lamela after the Argentinian half-time substitute was a minute late out for the restart after taking a toilet break.

Tottenham boss Pochettino was furious with his players after being caught cold at the start of the second half against on Sunday when Newcastle scored after just seven seconds.

Lamela did then make all of the difference as he broke the deadlock with a lovely goal after 54 minutes before Harry Kane completed the win.
