A video showing a spat between a driver of a diplomatic vehicle and a traffic warden has become a talking point online, with many netizens condemning the actions of the driver.
The minute-long clip was uploaded by The Real Singapore (TRS) on its Facebook page last Saturday.
The time and date of the incident are not specified, but the contributor told TRS that it took place in Holland Village.
The video shows a Caucasian driver of a Volvo sedan arguing with a Land Transport Authority traffic warden. The hazard lights on the Volvo were flashing while it was parked on a road with a single yellow zigzag line.
According to Singapore's traffic law, motorists who park their vehicles on this side of the road face three demerit points and a fine of up to $300.
Halfway through the video, a woman can be seen getting into the passenger seat as the two men argued. Soon after, the driver also gets into the car and drives off.
According to the contributor, the driver was hurling vulgarities and threatening to get the traffic warden fired for asking him to move his car.
A Facebook user identified only as Lian Chuan Yeoh said he had written in to the Dutch Embassy about the incident. According to Yeoh, he received the reply below:
"Thank you for your message.
"The person involved regrets his behaviour towards the parking officer and apologises for the inconvenience. I can assure you that this will not be a repeat incident and that the parking fine will be paid.
Regards, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands"
