A total of 104 suspected drug offenders were rounded up during the Central Narcotics Bureau’s (CNB) latest islandwide raids, with more than S$70,000 in drugs seized.
In a statement released yesterday, the CNB said it mounted an extensive operation from July 7 to July 11, with support from officers from the Singapore Police Force.
The raids covered areas such as Beach Road, Bedok North, Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang, Circuit Road, Geylang, Jalan Kayu, Pasir Ris, Woodlands and Yishun.
The drugs seized included about 270g of ketamine, 150g of Ice, 30g of heroin, 2,500 Erimin-5 tablets, 290 ecstasy tablets and a small amount of cannabis.
In one of the raids on July 7, CNB officers arrested a 47-year-old Singaporean in the Toh Guan Road area who was suspected of trafficking multiple types of drugs including ketamine, ecstasy tablets and cannabis. Drugs seized from him had an estimated street value of S$58,000.
The suspect is being investigated for drug trafficking and faces a minimum of five years imprisonment and five strokes of the cane if he is convicted, said the bureau.
CNB director Ng Ser Song said: “Singapore adopts a zero-tolerance approach towards illicit drugs.”
