Louis van Gaal wants players he can trust to steady the ship at United while building the layers that will make them a force again.
And
he has identified Nigel de Jong as a player who will not cost a fortune,
would be attainable and will do a vital job while he puts his stamp on
United.
De Jong, 29, joined Milan in August 2012 after being sold by former City boss Roberto Mancini following the club’s first league title win in 44 years.
Now though van Gaal wants to being the midfield hardman back to Manchester to bolster a United midfield woefully short of bite and physical presence.
Holland coach Van Gaal has told the Old Trafford giants' executive
vice chairman Ed Woodward to pursue a £6million deal for the AC Milan
midfield enforcer.
De Jong, with 74 caps for his country, has started both of Holland’s World Cup games.
