The panhandle community is reeling after 24-year-old corrections officer Amanda Baker was strangled Friday morning.

Baker was declared brain dead Friday afternoon, hours after she was strangled by a 15-year-old inmate Dylan Cardeilhac at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center in Gering.

Baker was described as someone who could "brighten up a room" just by walking in.

Friends and co-workers of 24-year-old Baker have taken to Facebook to express their grief and send thoughts and prayers to Amanda's family.

One of Amanda Baker's co-workers told KOTA Territory News "Amanda was a very nice person who talked about her young son a lot."

He described her as very hard working, and great to be around, and said she was well liked at the jail.

Dylan Cardeilhac, the 15-year old inmate authorities say strangled Amanda Baker, is facing attempted murder charges.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
