Grp A: Belgium see off plucky Scotland
Victory in the last qualifier in Croatia, coupled with a decent display in a friendly against England, meant morale was high within the Tartan Army ahead of this match.
But a goal in each half from Steven Defour and Kevin Mirallas secured victory for Belgium and ensured they took another massive step towards Brazil by remaining at the top of Group A.
Grp C: Klose makes history in Germany win
Miroslav Klose made history in Munich. The Lazio striker's 33rd-minute goal was his 68th in German colours and took him level with Gerd Muller as the country's all-time leading scorer.
It was a memorable enough moment in isolation but the goal, added to Toni Kroos' second-half goal, ensured Germany moved on to 19 points in qualifying Group C.
Grp I: Spain on the brink of World Cup berth
The world and European champions were made to suffer until Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo wrapped up the win late on.
Vicente Del Bosque's side did not produce the finest of performances, but now just need to beat either Belarus or Georgia next month to secure their place at the tournament in Brazil next summer.
Grp I: France fire blanks again in stalemate
France's scoreless run was extended to five games as Georgia dented their hopes of beating Spain to top spot in World Cup qualifying Group I with a 0-0 draw.
They stepped up a gear in the second half but could not find a way past home goalkeeper Giorgi Loria, who crowned a good display with two stunning saves in stoppage time to earn his side a point.
