Traditionally, the SEA Games are usually held at year’s end, between November and December. However, the 2015 South-East Asian Games, which Singapore is hosting, will be held from June 5-16, the Singapore South-east Asian Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC) announced yesterday (May 29) at a media briefing.

SINGSOC also announced that it is considering having more than 30 types of sports at the Games. This would be the highest number of sports hosted by Singapore in SEA Games history. The type of sports will be finalised at a later date.

SINGSOC executive committee chairman Lim Teck Yin said that one reason why they decided to hold the Games in June is so that students can be a part of the biennial event. They are also hoping that families can consider making the 12-day event their vacation activity in June 2015.

They also wanted to avoid clashing with the start of Ramadan, the National Day Parade, the Singapore Grand Prix, the WTA Championships and the year-end examinations.
