The Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a man to 50 years in prison for repeatedly raping one of his employees and distributing audio recordings he had made of the sexual assaults.

The crimes were committed between April 19 and August 10, 2008. Surachai, or Kanisorn, Thanachart, 37, was convicted of many offences, including threatening his victim with guns in order to detain her.

The court also convicted Surachai's 47-year-old common-law wife, Thanawan, or Deun, Udommeechai, for acting as his accomplice. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Surachai has made headlines before for crimes including a physical assault against a former beauty queen and firing an assault rifle at a Bangkok police station. He served a jail term for a previous conviction.
