The Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) is providing legal advice on matters pertaining to Syariah or Islamic law with support by the Law Society of Singapore’s Muslim Law Practice Committee.

The SCWO hopes to close the gap in such services, which were previously offered only at the Jamiyah Legal Clinic and some mosques.

Volunteer lawyers, conversant in Syariah law, will be available on the third Monday of each month to all women whose household income does not exceed S$1,050 a month.

The first legal clinic for Syariah law was held on Jan 21.
