It will be harder to run a red light now with the Traffic Police planning to increase their presence on Singapore’s roads.

More auxiliary police will be deployed on the roads and existing enforcement cameras will be digitalised by 2014, Channel NewsAsia reported.

They are also looking into the possibility of having the number of enforcement cameras increased.

In addition, the Traffic Police has plans to strengthen community outreach and engagement on road safety issues, by identifying more Road Safety Champions in specialised industries such as those with large fleets of heavy vehicles.

According to the Traffic Police’s annual report released today, speeding and running red lights were the most common road violations, reported Channel NewsAsia, however the number of accidents with fatalities has decreased.

Traffic Police Commander Cheang Keng Keong asked road users continue to act responsibly. He also announced that there will be more programmes in the coming months to handle those who break the law.
