Arsenal

The Lowdown: Given Arsene Wenger's renowned reluctance to sign players in January, Arsenal fans should be delighted that they managed to snap up the steady Monreal as a replacement for the injured Kieran Gibbs, rather than let Andre Santos try to hold the fort at left-back.
However, the Gunners still look lightweight in the middle with Abou Diaby still not impressing as a midfield enforcer so far and it remains to be seen if they have enough quality to push for a Champions League spot at the end of the season.
Verdict: Wenger has fixed a problem with an excellent signing, but is still a few players away from making Arsenal a truly world-class team.
Aston Villa
INS: Yacouba Sylla (Clermont, undisclosed), Simon Dawkins (Tottenham, loan)
OUTS: Alan Hutton (Real Mallorca, free), Stephen Warnock (Leeds United, loan)
The Lowdown: Aston Villa's lack of experience has been highlighted as their main problem, so it's understandable that fans don't think a signing a 22-year-old from Ligue 2 and a 25-year-old striker without top flight experience isn't quite the ideal solution for them.
On the other hand, Sylla fills up the gaping hole right in front of the Villa defence which has proven to be their kryptonite so far. His signing which may just be enough to see Villa come through in the relegation fight.
Verdict: Not an ideal transfer window to boost the fans' confidence. Only results can justify Paul Lambert's dealings.
Chelsea
INS: Demba Ba (Newcastle United, £7.5m), Wallace (Fluminese, £5m. Arrives in summer)
OUTS: Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool, £12m), Lucas Piazon (Malaga, loan), Todd Kane (Blackburn Rovers, loan), Billy Clifford, Sam Walker (both Colchester United, loan)
The Lowdown: Ba's signing may just be Chelsea's best piece of transfer dealing in terms of value-for-money under Roman Abramovich at just £7.5m, with Daniel Sturridge leaving for Liverpool in a £12m move. In comparison, they were also heavily linked with Falcao, who would have commanded a £48m fee.
Sending Piazon on loan to Malaga was a somewhat inevitable move given their overcrowded midfield - a sign of their imbalanced transfer policy.
Verdict: Benitez was never going to spend big given his interim role at the club, but he never needed to with a strong squad at his disposal.
Everton
IN: John Stones (Barnsley, undisclosed)
OUTS: Ross Barkley (Leeds, loan), Magaye Gueye (Brest, loan)
The Lowdown: It was more of what did not happen at Everton that highlighted the club's transfer window. They had a £8.6m deal for FC Twente's Leroy Fer which failed after a knee problem was revealed at the medical, failed to capture Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla, but also managed to hold onto star players Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.
Verdict: As Moyes mentioned earlier in the week, his squad is really thin and they will struggle to meet the demands of cup and league competitions. Without reinforcements, Moyes' ability to juggle the team will be put to the test.
Fulham
INS: Chris David (FC Twente, Undisclosed), Emmanuel Frimpong (Arsenal, loan), Urby Emanuelson (AC Milan), Stanislav Manolev (PSV Eindhoven, loan)
OUTS: Stephen Kelly (Reading, undisclosed), David Stockdale (Hull City, loan), Richard Peniket (AFC Telford, loan)
The Lowdown: Martin Jol was undoubtedly an influence behind the coup to bring former protégé Emanuelson to the club from AC Milan. Some may argue that Fulham are underachieving this season with the talent at their disposal, and the addition of a top-class versatile left-sided player may prove the difference as the Cottagers push for a top-half finish this season.
Verdict: Fulham already looked set for the season without the signings and the extra help will only serve to boost their squad as they hunt for a top 10 finish in the Premier League.
Liverpool
INS: Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea, £12m), Philippe Coutinho (Inter Milan £8.5m)
OUTS: Joe Cole (West Ham United, free), Michael Ngoo (Hearts, loan), Adam Morgan (Rotherham, loan), Nuri Sahin (Borussia Dortmund, loan terminated), Danny Wilson (Hearts, loan), Alexander Doni (Botafogo, free).
The Lowdown: Liverpool fans should be happy with the business the clubs have done. They scrounged up £20m for Sturridge and Coutinho to boost their strike force after Brendan Rodgers ran out of cash to replace Andy Carroll in the summer.
Sturridge has already made an impact at Liverpool with three goals in five matches, and if Coutinho's successful loan stint at Espanyol last season is anything to go by, he should fit right into the Spanish ethos under Rodgers at Liverpool.
Verdict: Rodgers is continuing his quest to correct the wrongs of the previous transfer windows with smart signings. The process is on-going, but he is making excellent progress.
Manchester City
INS: None
OUTS: Alex Nimely (Crystal Palace, loan), Omar Elabdellaoui (Eintracht Braunschweiger, loan), Jeremy Helen (Sheffield Wednesday, loan), Luca Scapuzzi (Varese, loan), Mario Balotelli (AC Milan, £22m)
The Lowdown: City were not expected to sign anyone, and they didn't.
The biggest story at the Etihad would be the departure of the prodigal Balotelli to AC Milan. Fans are divided about the issue - on one hand, he leaves City with three strikers for the rest of the season, on the other, he hadn't contributed much anyway.
Verdict: Balotelli's sale was actually a good deal from a business perspective - £22m for a player who started only seven league games this season. City can only hope that they will not have to pay for it should injury hit any of their other strikers.
Manchester United
INS: Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace, £10m rising to £15m), Dean Santangelo (Augsburg II, undisclosed)
OUTS: Angelo Henriquez (Wigan Athletic, loan), Bebe (Rio Ave, loan), Josh King (Blackburn Rovers, £1m), Robbie Brady (Hull City, £2m), Scott Wootton (Peterborough, loan), Davide Petrucci (Peterborough, loan), Federico Macheda (Stuttgart, loan), Luke McCullough (Cheltenham Town, loan), Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace, loan)
The Lowdown: An unexpected transfer came United's way in the form of Wilfried Zaha despite Sir Alex Ferguson saying there would be no arrivals at Old Trafford (He was technically right as Zaha was immediately shipped back to Crystal Palace on loan).
Make no mistake, Zaha's signing is actually for the next window, and it just shows the shrewd side of Ferguson's transfer strategy by snapping up his player a window earlier than his rivals.
Verdict: United never needed reinforcements with a full squad that seem capable of challenging on all fronts. Zaha's signing inclusive, all of their dealings are all with a view to the future - an excellent if unique way of using the January window.
Newcastle

The Lowdown: The headlines up in the north of England were filled with French exclamations throughout the window as Newcastle snapped up five French players in a week.
The Magpies have made a poor start to the season after a string of injuries, and the signings were a reaction to those.
Verdict: Will it be too little, too late for Newcastle? Only time will tell. In the long run, the signings do make the Magpies look like a force to be reckoned with.
Norwich

The Lowdown: Norwich were linked with a move for Gary Hooper but missed out on him and had to settle for Beccio, the fourth player they've signed from Leeds United in two years.
Verdict: Grant Holt has been inconsistent in front of goal this season and Becchio may just be the one Norwich need to open the floodgates for them. A good, low-risk signing.
Queens Park Rangers

The Lowdown: Despite being linked with about every other Tottenham player, Harry Redknapp managed to only sign Townsend from Spurs in this window.
The arrival of two top players in record signing Samba and Remy, who was signed from under Newcastle's nose, at the club will be a big boost for Redknapp, who has been openly unimpressed by his current batch of players.
Verdict: The signings of Remy and Samba were rumoured to cost a total of £20m - a heavy investment for any club, let alone one that is rooted to the bottom of the table, and the duo are potential game-changers in the relegation battle. However, it may be too tough a feat for Redknapp's men with a squad full of baggage.
Reading

The Lowdown: Reading were going to find it tough without the financial clout of a rich owner but McDermott managed to draft in six players on a shoestring budget.
Verdict: Akpan has proven to be a smart signing after coming up with two assists already against Chelsea and Carrico is an excellent signing for only £600,000 for a Sportling Lisbon first team player. McDermott is showing that money isn't everything with solid signings.
Southampton
INS: Vegard Forren (Molde, £4.2m)
OUTS: Sam Hoskins (Stevenage, loan), Ryan Dickson (Bradford, loan), Danny Seaborne (Bournemouth, loan)
The Lowdown: The Saints' biggest signing came in the dugout when Nigel Adkins was replaced by Mauricio Pochettino. Vegard Forren arrived at the club after reportedly snubbing Liverpool and represents an excellent piece of business by the Saints.
Verdict: Forren's arrival will bolster Southampton's defence, and that can only help them in their relegation battle.
Stoke

The Lowdown: Stoke managed to clinch Jack Butland in a cheap £5m deal and sent him back on loan until June, while they have also snapped up midfielder Brek Shea.
Butland's signing only serves to increase speculation that Stoke are readying themselves for the sale of Asmir Begovic in the summer while 1.91m Shea further enhances the physical presence in an intimidating Stoke line-up.
Verdict: All in all, Stoke did excellent business to anticipate future developments while also shoring up their already strong team.
Sunderland

The Lowdown: Danny Graham's departure was the biggest news at the Welsh side in the window after their hero last season was sold to Sunderland on deadline day. The only arrival came in the form of Lamah from Osasuna.
Verdict: Swansea already look set for the season and the arrival of Lamah is a low-risk move that could pay off.
Tottenham
INS: Ezekiel Fryers (Standard Liege, £3m), Lewis Holtby (Schalke, £1.5m)

The Lowdown: Holtby, who was originally meant to join the club in the summer, was signed earlier for a paltry £1.5m and they managed to get Fryers, who was their transfer target six months ago, from Standard Liege.
Verdict: Two excellent bargains for Spurs, but they are still lacking in the striking department with Jermain Defoe still having injury doubts and Emmanuel Adebayor at AFCON.
West Brom

OUTS: Chris Wood (Leicester, £1.5m rising to £2m), Gonzalo Jara (Nottingham Forest, loan), Sam Mantom (Walsall, undisclosed), Craig Dawson (Bolton, loan), Yassine El Ghanassy (Gent, undisclosed)
The Lowdown: The biggest story at West Brom was the bizarre saga of Peter Odemwingie, who turned up at QPR uninvited, asking for a transfer without approval from either club.
Verdict: West Brom did well to show that players are not above the club.
West Ham

The Lowdown: West Ham managed to improve the squad without spending a single cent after landing Chamakh, Pogatetz and Cole. More significantly, they managed to keep hold of Mohamed Diame, who was heavily linked to Arsenal.
Verdict: The signings of Cole and Chamakh fits right into their playing philosophy. Smart buys from Big Sam, who clearly knows who he wants.
Wigan

Verdict: The new signings are here to add depth to the side with their versatility, rather than spearhead their relegation fight.
