"It happened last Thursday when my daughter was warded at Mount Elizabeth Hospital for respiratory infection," said one-year-old Callista Toh's mother, who wanted to be known only as Mrs Toh.

The 37-year-old supply chain executive told The New Paper that Callista was given more than the prescribed dosage of Prednisolone, a steroid used to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system.

The bottle states: "Each 5ml contains Prednisolone BP 10mg" and "Dosage: Adults: 10-100mg daily in divided doses".

Mrs Toh was upset over the mistake and said she is very careful when it comes to medicating her child and this is the fourth time Callista was warded.

"She has some respiratory issues and wheezes badly whenever she gets a viral infection. She had been warded several times, so I am pretty clear about the amount she is supposed to have and the routines at the hospital," she said.

So when the nurse was about to administer the medication to Callista, Mrs Toh said her instincts kicked in, so she checked and found that the baby was given four times the dose prescribed by the doctor.

She confronted the nurse who insisted that it was correct but was in fact, not.
