A S$1,115 Cartier wedding band was reported missing by British businessman Lam Yu Ching, who realised it had been mislaid after he boarded a Singapore Airlines flight to the Maldives.

Closed-circuit television recordings showed his wife had forgotten to collect the silver-coloured ring along with the rest of their possessions, after going through X-ray checks at the airport's Terminal 2 on Feb 17 last year.

A female staff member on duty at the manual screening area did not notice that the ring had been left behind.

She sent the tray back to the front loader, and it was picked up by the next passenger. This time she spotted the ring and asked the passenger if it was his, but he denied it. Certis Cisco officer Mohammed Arshad Alamgir, 39, then took the piece of jewellery from the passenger and placed it on top of the X-ray machine, where it stayed until he had finished work.

He did not inform airline staff about the ring or hand it to the information counter, as required. It was recovered from his home when he was arrested on March 14.

A spokesman for Certis Cisco said on Wednesday: "With immediate effect, he is no longer in our employment.

"At Certis Cisco we train and expect our officers to live by our values of integrity and professionalism. Anyone found to contradict such values in their course of their duties will face disciplinary action including termination of service."
