Azkals leave it late to stay in the hunt
Philippines are still very much alive in the 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup after picking up their first points in Group A with a 1-0 win over Vietnam on Tuesday.
For much of the game, it looked as though the Azkals' route to the semi-finals was going to be made tougher as they struggled to break down a lethargic Vietnam outfit.
However, all that changed in the 85th minute when captain Emelio Caligdong came off the bench and coolly slotted past Duong Hong Son to hand his side all three points.
Dominant Thailand book semi-final berth
Thailand booked their place in the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-finals with a game to spare after cruising to a 4-0 win over Myanmar in Group A on Tuesday evening.
The War Elephants edged ahead in the 20th minute through an ingenious strike from Teerasil Dangda, before substitute Apipoo Suntornpanavej doubled their lead on the hour mark when he powered home a header shortly after coming on.
Eight minutes from time, Teerasil added his second after a glorious pass from Theerathon Bunmathan, before completing his hat-trick seven minutes later to seal an emphatic rout for the hosts.
While the result was enough to send the Thais through to the last four ahead of their final group encounter against Vietnam, Myanmar will now need to beat Philippines on Friday to have any chance of progressing from the group.
