Tourists on a dolphin-watching trip in Guangxi province were deeply moved by a sight they witnessed earlier this month.

During a trip on the Qinzhou sea on July 8, tourists spotted a Chinese White dolphin carrying its calf on its back.

At first, the tourists thought the mother dolphin was supporting the calf because it had trouble swimming.

However, when the boat moved closer to the dolphins, the tourists discovered that the calf was already dead.

The calf had a wound along its abdomen that was about 30cm long.

The dead calf slipped off its mother's back several times, but the adult dolphin would dive down and lift the baby onto its back as it continued swimming forward.

The video was viewed over a million times on popular Chinese video sharing website Youku, with many viewers saying that the scene was moving and heartbreaking.

Netizens were also touched the the dolphin refused to abandon the corpse of its calf.
